FOCACCIA BREAD

Focaccia is a flat bread product which resembles pizza dough only fluffier and yummier. Focaccia can be used as a side to many meals or as sandwich bread as well as being blinding as an antipasto, appetiser, table bread, or snack.

It's also blinking easy to knock together and doesn't even require any kneading.  It's miraculous that with such little effort reaps such big rewards.  And do yourself a favour... hit up the recipe for the Focaccia bread pizza - not one to be missed.

Ingredients

  • 500 g plain flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • teaspoons instant yeast 1 packet
  • 500 ml warm tap water
  • 1 teaspoon butter for greasing pan
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • Italian seasoning or finely chopped fresh herbs
  • Smoked salt to season

Instructions

  1. Add the flour salt and yeast to a mixing bowl and stir well.

  2. Add the tap water and stir it all together with a wooden spoon.

  3. Cover the mixing bowl with cellophane and leave it to prove in the fridge for 8 to 24 hours.

  4. Get the dough from the fridge and grease two round baking dishes with butter.

  5. Drizzle olive oil in the centre of the pans and divide the dough in half and place each half in each pan.  Turn the dough to coat it in oil then leave the dough to rest for about two hours.

  6. Preheat the oven to 220C.

  7. Drizzle a table spoon of oil on each piece of dough then poke the famous Focaccia dimples with an oiled finger all over.  Season with smoked slat and herbs.

  8. Place the dough in the centre of the oven for about 25 minutes until golden brown.  Take out of the oven and allow to cool on a wire rack.

  9. So many ways to enjoy this bread, it's so fluffy and yummy.  However you do, enjoy!
